License to Carry

One Day Classes
Four (4) hours training plus range time, completed in one day.

The value of $100, which includes range fees. ($25 discount, each, for 2 or more in the same class.)


You can apply with DPS (https://txapps.texas.gov/txapp/txdps/chl/) before or after you take the class.  You can also use this link to follow your application as it is processed.

TX CPS charges $40, ($25 if you are a military vet and FREE if you are active duty (including Guard and Reserves) or have been discharged within 365 days.)


You can schedule your fingerprints with Identigo.

DPS will use the photo on your drivers license (if you do not like it, you need to get a new d/l w/new photo).

Students may use any caliber pistol, revolver or semi-automatic, and will need 50 rounds. Handguns can be rented for $25 (includes ammunition.)

How long can I wait to apply for the license?

The class certificate is good for 2 years. If you apply first, you have to complete the class within 1 year.

The class is portable, I can hold class around your dining room table

How long is the license good for?

The initial license is good for 4+ years (expires on your next birthday). Renewed licenses are good for 5 years. You can renew 6 months before or up to 1 year after it expires.
